Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

Has anyone experienced satellite radio reception problems due to the imbedded antenna? A friend says an install shop told him that his XM Radio reception issues are common to Subaru's with the window mounted antenna.

Re: Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

Just to add a few more cents to the pile... I have the XM SkyFi2 and I get pretty good reception most of the time, unless I am driving by someone else who is running either another satellite radio or iPod-type frequency device. That's about the only time I have problems - most of the time I either pass the other person going the other way, or I speed up or slow down to keep their signal far enough away it doesn't interfere.

Re: Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

I've got an XM on my 06 outback and it comes in crystal clear, the antenna is mounted top center on the windshield.

Re: Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

I am considereing buyin an 07 subaru legacy sedan with xm radio installed. Local dealers do not as yet have any 07 so equipped but tell me that the antenna is mounted on the inside of the windshield, upper right corner. I, too, would be concerned about reception. Any comments about this type of install vs. having a portable xm unit (brand?) installed with roof mount would be appreciated.

Re: Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

I don't have a legacy, but my antenna is sitting inside my car where the dash meets the windshield on the driver's side. I only have reception problems when there are a lot of overhanging trees. The bigger problem I have is when other people are behind me and my rear-window-imbedded FM antenna picks up their satellite/iPod frequency.

Re: Subaru XM Radio Reception Problems??

We've got a XM Roady 2 in our Subaru. The antenna is on the roof near the upper right corner of the windshield...no problems recieving.
The factory radio wasn't so great, so I installed an aftermarket radio that had a front panel aux input. The XM plugs directly into the aux input, so there is no interference from nearby vehicles with FM modulators.
