Cool Rare Option Front Bench Seat

Hello, I used to have many Firebirds. I am looking to get back into them? I am looking for a special item.... I used to have a Front Bench Seat Option for my Firebird. This was an extremely rare option only available in 67, 68, and 69? I would like to find one of these seats again to rebuild my dream car. A 1967 Firebird OHC 6 4 speed convertable. Now if you state the front bench seat wasn't an option for the convertable, you are right. But it does bolt in the same. Anybody else ever see one? or have one for sale? Any condition..... email me [email protected] Thanks Mark

why do you want a damn 6 cylinder, a v-8 convertible would be a hell of a lot rarer, only 8 trans am convertibles were built in 68, and that was the only first gen convertible. look it up.

Re: Rare Option Front Bench Seat

Light gray,

YOU look it up. There were ZERO Trans Ams produced in '68. There were a small number of "PFST"s built, for competition in Trans American Challenge Cup. This car was the predecessor to the T/A, and Pontiac's counter to Z/28. There were 8 '69 ragtops. All but one are accounted for, and the price would make a lottery winner cry.
The Sprint wasn't as rare as some believe, but rare is not the only measure of a cool car. I have no less tha 5 customers with '68 convertibles (all 350 or 400 cars). That's just around Richmond and D.C. Have one customer with a '67 ragtop that we took the 326 out, and put a 461 in. ANIMAL! Too much power for the convertible chassis.
Lighten up on the guy. If he wants a 6-cylinder car, he's got a perfect right to it. Not everyone wants to race or go REAL fast. Some just want to cruise. Others want what they want because they want it. Building a clone and calling the real deal will get you into hot water QUICK! That's the ONLY way you're going to come up with a '69 T/A of any description, much less a ragtop.

Mark,
The OHC engines are getting tough to find. The 4-bbl. version are REALLY tough. A good performer, no doubt.
I've seen a couple of those bench seat cars over the years. Definitely rare and high "cool" factor. Gonna be tough to build one, though. Finding the seat would be your biggest challenge. You'll also find a bit of bracket re-doing is called for to install it. It's not a big deal, but it's not a "bolt in" deal, either. We just went through that exercise with a '67 Chevelle SS. It came with the bench seat, and we installed buckets.

Best of luck in your quest. E-mail me if I can be of assistance. I don't klnow offhand, where you can get what you need, but I know a LOT of Pontiac guys and gals.

Jim

I was considered a bit of an expert in the 70's ont he Firebirds. Owned 21 of them. Worked on many more. Still have every original magazine article published from '66 to '71 that I could find. Ground up restorations, etc.... It is amazing how much people think they know, and even how much miscommunication is out there in magazine articles. Anyways, If any one has seen a front bench seat, please email me asap. Any Condition. AS for the 6 cyl. it would beat most sbc off the line. But they would quickly catch up! Thanks, Mark
