intake gaskets

Just got done with a intake gasket job. Now it shifts hard and idles rough. I have been looking on this site and seen the stuff about the vacum lines. I checked all the lines I can see. Even the ones I can't see by the firewall. ( not a job for someone with big mitts) I am hoping either GM Merlin or GTP dad will respond. No offense to anybody else. I have talked to 2 of the local GM mechs and the only thing they can tell me is bring it in and check the codes. ( the service engine light is on now, it wasn't before) It has to be something simple. Any ideas? Now I know why they get $65.00 per hour to do this stuff. Thanks for any help

If you can get the car to autozone they will scan it for free. No need to pay the dealer. Once you get the codes post them and we should be able to help you out.

Not to minimize your mechanical ability, but did you change oil after the gasket change? If you got water in the oil and it is cooking out it can cause the symptoms you speak of. The other thing is to retrace your steps and make sure that you didn't get an injector wire crossed with another one and that all plug wires are on correctly. Get back with the codes as soon as possible.

Thanks for the response. Well we don't have a autozone up north here. I'll have my buddy run the codes. He's alot cheaper. I checked the plug wires and the injector wires, they are ok. I plan on changing oil tonight when my wife gets home from work. I had to put a new gasket on the egr motor. Could that gasket be binding the motor? Thanks alot for the help.

Possible but doubtful you can remove it and check but generally the egr only works when the engine warms up. I would check to make sure the IAC is properly plugged in and that the throttle body is tight.

Found it. The map sensor was not plugged in.

Hey thanks for your help. Took it to a friends garage and read the code. map sensor was not plugged in. Didn't have to take much apart to get it plugged in. But it runs great now. Got the oil changed today. was pretty dirty for only having 500 miles on it. I guess lots of stuff fell in when it was apart. Thanks again for the help.

Ok people
It's running, now I have a fuel leak at the rail. Do I have to change the o-ring to get it to stop or is it just loose.

Try tightening it. If that won't stop the leak then the o-ring will need replaced. Make sure to lubricate the new o-ring before you install it. Vaseline will work well.

Yep it was the o-ring. Should have changed it when I had it all tore down the first time. Oh well live and learn.
