My son recently inherited a 1989 Jetta from my sister and today the dash fuse blew after I tried to charge my cell phone. We replace the fuse, reset the dash clock and thought everything was fine. Although when we turned on the radio we got a "SAFe" message on the readout. What do we need to do to fix the radio. I checked the owners manual, but it only refers us to a radio manual which was not included. I will contact the dealer if I must but I really was hoping we could fix without a dealer. I would hate to think everytime we blow a dash fuse we need dealer assistance.

Re: Help Radio won't work
the radio lost the memory long enough to reset.
You need to set the code, if you don't have it you have to ask the dealer for it, all they need is the vin number and they can give you the code by the phone. |

Re: Re: Re: Help Radio won't work
Well I thought I had a fix, but after going to the dealer I was told my car was too old for them to find the code. Something about the scanner they use was recently changed over to a new system and they can no longer get the code on my "old" radio. Does anyone have any other suggestions other than buying a new stereo?
