OK, well I ordered a HotShot cold air intake today.
I've read that using a JWT (or Stillen) Pop charger with the CAI is a good idea because of the funneling effect the pop charger creates. My only concern with doing this is the following... the only filters available for the pop chargers are the ones with that big chrome piece in the front. on a CAI system this part would be facing the ground and blocking the most direct airflow. with an HKS or Greddy type filter, the air would enter from the sides as well as from the bottom (straight into the intake piping) Should I go with the POP or not? |

I might be wrong but I think the POP charger has more to do with the aluminum horn that comes with it than the filter that attaches to it.

yes, thats what I mean...
that is the benefit of it, and the benefit of using it in conjunction with the CAI... but a draw back is that the only filters that fit on it have that metal piece at the front, which on a CAI would be facing down and blocking the air coming straight off the ground.. |

Yes...
Next to your battery tray there is a hole which let air up into your stock airbox. The hole must be cut out and enlarged in order to fit the intake piping through it so that your filter can sit between your front bumper and your wheel well. |

Re: CAI with POP charger or not?

As for the chrome piece blocking air flow, don't worry about that. You'd be surprised at how air actually flows. Just use the K&N filter that comes with the HS CAI. You'll be OK. I don't think anyone has ever received any gains by using a POP with a CAI.

CAI
Hey Guys...
with the CAI and POP, will that fit between the chassis and the fender liner? If so, water really wouldnt be an issue, right?

George,
http://www.se-r.net/engine/cool_air_intake.html thats where I read about the POP w/ the CAI. Still not sure which way to go... Also wanna put an AEM bypass valve on it. Anyone know the diameter of HotShots intakes? Also, should I place the BPV before or after the engine bay on the intake? Not sure how close it can be to the filter and still be effective and/or if that is a factor in its operation... A380Driver, I dont think light water "hitting" the filter will be much of a problem. For example rain drops coming through the vents in my front bumper. Water on the ground shouldnt be an issue either. If it was then you could never drive your car in the rain if you had a CAI. The real issue comes up when driving through a puddle which is about as deep as the lower edge of your bumper. At that point the water has enough wieght to it (or around it) to physically push itself into your filter and then get vacuumed up.

As for where to place the valve, anywhere before the MAF is fine - the higher in the engine bay the better. Quote:
