2000 Sunfire No DTRL
ok guys so i just bought my 2000 sunfire and after some extensive work its road worthy but heres the kicker, there is still one problem i can't seem to fix, when i start up the car and put it in gear the day time running light (DTRL), light flickers on the dash a bunch of times then goes into a service light, the headlights at this time also flicker and shut off, i have low and high beems but no DTRL and its sorta frustrating, Ne thoughts? thanks, also i forgot my high beams do not work either... thanks again

Re: Re: 2000 Sunfire No DTRL
Well I replaced both headlight bulbs - no joy. My parts store does not stock the relay, and I would have to go through the dealer for it. Can you tell me where, and how to check the relay?
THanks again for all your help Quote:

driver side take it out and get an ohmeter and check for continuity or get 2 wires connect them to the battery negative and positive and look for the 2 pins in the relay connect both wires and see if it closses if it does then is not the relay but after that only a fuse could be be carefull in the test tho |

Re: 2000 Sunfire No DTRL
Found the relay - thanks. Have checked it completely as described - it is dead. In fact the lights all act the same without the relay in, as with it in - I am going to visit my GM Dealer tomorrow and hopefully they stock the relay - I am cautiously optomistic that it is the route of this problem. Again many thanks for you help - I will let you know how I make out

u using stock lamps? or aftermarket? if u using aftermarket maybe is getting wires too hot and might be a problem if not check grounds to make sure they r tight also check the connectors maybe they melt or they rusted and not making good contact sometimes when lights get dimmer is due to lack of ground lets start from there |

relay: 1 1 1 2 1 pin 2 = ground, what i did do test this was gabbeb a copper wire into the socket and with an ohmeter went to what i thought was ground, under the steering wheel more up around the pedals and checked to see if that conection was there, and nothing showed up on the meter, and yes the meter is definatly good. i dunno at this point i'm not exactly an electrician. lol |

well to start is a good thing u found out a ground is faulty now what u did was good tracing that ground now, dont give up more electrical test r a pain in the rear, meanning will take some time the first time if is a ground going to terelay meanning.. the relay has no ground just get a piece of wire and conect it to any metal then connect the other side to the relay pin thats supouse to have a ground see if there is any diference, ( but make sure that relay's pin is supose to have a ground) ill see if i can get a schematic diagram for u good luck |

ok so heres the final verdict, not wanting to tackle a wiring problem, i headed down to teh garage taht has a good rep around here. they had it for the day to fix wiring and get it saftied, they said in all they replaced 5 coroded wires that were completely shit and they also said someone else before i owned it had done some half assed job fixing them previously. i guess he ran both lights off of the same wire and long story short i get the car tomorrow due to a right tie rod being shit also then shes all mine :P thanks a lot this wont be the last u guys here from me :P thanks again Satanspet |

Wow, I wish I'd seen your original post earlier. I have a 2001 z-24 that did the EXACT same thing. I just took it to the dealer. (Didn't trust my own ability to find and correct the problem) He found the problem in about one hour. Replaced a wiring harness (about $50) and said that one of the wires was hooked up wrong. My car had been in an accident and had some front end body work done before I bought it.
