Intermediate mods

I have a 98 ex (d16y8 SOHC, stockish)Well, my ultimate fantasy is to have a turbo, but it is not going to happen right now. So...What are the best and most responsive mods (meanwhile) that would help for a turbo build up. i am looking to have a semi strong engine. I was thinking maybe a new cam, rods, sleeves, pistons, valve springs? These will make a strong engine but probably no actual gain in speed. Really I am looking to throw $200-300 every few months.

Re: Intermediate mods

start with intake, exhaust, re-map or new ECU, then cams & gears.

then you can change the intake manifold and exhaust manifold/header etc...

Re: Intermediate mods

if you put on some sort of CAI or a header, you're going to have to sell them when you want to get your turbo. The best way to do it is to figure out what kind of power you want to make w/ a turbo. If its under 220whp, you don't have to build the engine as long as it gets tuned properly. If you want more than that, you'll have to start lookin at new rods and low comp piston heads, ARP headbolts and rod studs....etc. . If you're going all out, look at resleeving.

It all comes down to the amount of money you're willing to spend and the amount of power you want to make....

Re: Intermediate mods

on the build up alone i am lookin to spend under $2000. but this is a little under 2 years.
i am lookin to start (with a turbo) for about 200 hp. i am not looking to run very high psi (the stock engine can could hold around 8-10 psi, i hear). the building up will best give me more potetail and confidence in my car.

anyways i think the re-map or new ECU would be done when the turbo is on. this is becuase for now i am getting decent MPG's.

Re: Intermediate mods

first, psi doesn't mean hardly anything. You need to look at the amount of whp you want to make. All turbos are not equal therefore the reference to psi doesn't mean anything.

200whp on a Dseries is doable w/o a build. If you want more, expect to pay more. I was looking at a buildin my own kit on my 99GS-R, and i was always in the $3000+ range just for the parts and tuning. I would run that on the stock motor!! I was looking for 300whp though.....

Re: Intermediate mods

i have been to the turbo d16 site before. there is alot of info there, but the site isnt as friendly as this. the asshole % seems to be very high there.

anyway. it would be better to measure the capabilites of an enging by HP and not PSI ? I know any # of PSI does not = a certaint amount of HP.
but either way, more PSI would put more stress on the engine.

please enlighten me!!!

Re: Intermediate mods

http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

You should really read that some time...it doesn't have any D specific info, but there still is some good info on there.

What do you want to know.....????? Are you doin this build on the stock motor or are you building it? What's your budget?? Power??

Need more info, but if you read that site top to bottom, you should have a lot better understanding of turbo systems. You don't have to read it top to bottom, but skim parts of it at least.....
