Question Impala LS 3800 acceleration

GM boasts that the standard 3800 II w/ 200+hp has a 0-60 of about 7.7 seconds. Hmmm, is this just an absolute best-case scenario ever recorded, or do these engines actually have this ability?
I have a 2003 Impala LS with 43k miles, and attempted a 0-60 (which I will only ever do once or twice) with just myself in the car, and got just under 10 seconds to 60mph- as accurate as i could count in my head anyway!!) (w/ trac control 'on' to eliminate squealing).
Anyone else ever done this, if so, what are your thoughts, besides 'good way to shorten the life of your engine' lol!

Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

actually for the 3.8 LS its 8.1, and yeah when they take those numbers, most of the time its just running numbers with what parts are in the engine and what not. but I think they may even test them in the production stage, when they are prototypes.

but tell you what, take trac off, it should help. it you took off and the trac engaged, it hurt you. the tractino control when it engages, reduces power, applys brakes to which wheels are spinning, and limits the timing, in order for you to get traction. and that little bit of squeal you might get, or that little bit of tire spini, usually isnt going to take away from you time as much as the traction control will, but thats just my opinion.

oh yeah, and get a stop watch, that whole counting in your head, aint gunna cut it.

Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

so 7.7 with stock configuration is not questionable and very atainable high 7's low 8's stock

when my car is built we think it should run mid 5's lol but then again it will be so far from stock it will be sick

Anyone have any links to the easiest and or cheapest way to 'black out' the tail lights...you know give it that body color sport package look?

Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

not really the best place to be asking since this thread has nothing to do with that(not trying to be mean but helpful)

but you can find them on ebay, I dont see them right now, but a few days ago I saw them there.

or here http://www.crazygraphics.com/impala/

Re: Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

yeah what your missing is that the tail light itself is not coverd, just that ugly red area that is around it that makes up the rest of the taillight housing. but the light portion that is required to be un-coverd for viewing, is still uncovered.

this is my car, it came with the actual covers for the taillights, but on that website, those are just vinyl to make it look like this. where mine is black, most are red.

Re: Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

Ok, I can try naioa. Just figured it didn't have to be an impala thread to ask a question. But thanks anyhow.

Re: Re: Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

Love your car. Wish I'd got my hands on a 'pala with the sport package. Looks like a mini vette rear end. Sounds corny, i know. Dont reply with a bunch of boos and thumbs down...but I'm also a 'vette fan, and think the impala ('00-'05 that is...) has a little taste of big uncle vette's styling here and there. Or just chevy styling whatever you wnat to call it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Impala LS 3800 acceleration

well I just meant that this thread was for acceleration, not tail light covers. that and I wasnt paying attentino to the names, I thought at first that someone random was just asking a question in the middle of this thread. I didnt realize that you started this thread, I just want paying attention.

actually that is where the sport package, later added ss, got the taillight covers from, there an vet inspired color cordinanted applique. but taht Vet style spoiler is the SLP spolier, like the ss but better, without that ugly hanging down portion on the sides that wrap around the third brake light. I have a few more pics of it if you want to see different views.

but yeah, I would reccomend stopping by NAIOA.
