First guess: Low refrigerant pressure. Probably from a small leak. Around here, the A/C stops working because of cold temperatures causing the refrigerant pressure to drop.
My '92 takes R-12. Haven't looked at the '93. There should be a sticker on the compressor (or somewhere else on the A/C system) with recharge information.
