P0402 EGR code Help

I need help i have given up trying to fix the problem with my 1999 Mazda Protege. My engine light keeps coming on and the code that always comes up is EGR P0402.

I have had the ports in the intake plenium behind the throttle body cleaned, as well as replaced the EGR Valve but i still keep getting the code. The mileage on my car is 87,000.

I am open to any suggestion to this fix otherwise i will have to get rid of the car. Help!

Re: Re: P0402 EGR code Help

I have taken my car to a certified mechanic but not a mazda certified dealer.
What would they do different after all the work that has been done?
I just don't want to be told i have to repalce the egr valve again when it has already been replaced.

Re: P0402 EGR code Help

lol at the dealer we have tech support from mazda and experience over the year. in a way you sorta see the same things with certain make/model cars.
what you need to do is find the egr boost sensor and checked if you have vaccume going to it. if not trace the vaccume line back to the intake manifold and clean the port at the nippel where the line go to. but you need to know for sure that they have clean the port behind the throttle body. most likely they miss the port going to the egr boost sensor. you can use a small drill bit and carburator cleaner to clean the port. remember this is an external port not the one behine the throttle body. good luck

oh yeah, one more thing make sure that the rubber line is clear of carbon , sometime the line will get clog from carbon that was cleaned from the ports behine the throttle body. this is the line from the intake manifold to the egr boost sensor

Re: P0402 EGR code Help

Well they are ok, it just a rebadge ford. I like the mazda 3 but thats redesign focus. The 6 is made in the US and the 3 is made in japan with ford parts that make no sense but it's true. We have issues with the electrical components like the throttle body on the 6. EVAP sensor/valve/ on both the 3 and 6. I would go with a honda accord v6 coupe it will out run most of what mazda have even the new mazdaspeed 6 turbo awd 278hp. I just work on them but I'm a honda fan reliable and race proven

Thanks for the info.
I will think about the Honda Accord. I am not sure i will get it since the theft rate on honda's is high. Or i may have to go the ecomonical way Toyota corolla or Rav4
