Rip 1983-2005
well it was a sad day thursday night, i wrote off my '83 civic wagon. i'm going to miss that car, not only was it my first car but it's also been in my family since '83 (yes, if you do the math this car did drive me home from the hospital 21 years ago) my parents were the second owners with 20,000 miles on it when they bought it, it currently sits with 284,000 miles right now. today i picked up an 82 Prelude in well... rusty condition to serve me while i finish school, only 108,000 miles on it! and doesn't burn oil; still a little rusty tho. on monday i am going to get my car from the impound lot so i can salvage all my parts and motor from the car.

Man, that sucks. But it's good to know that you are still alive, and can even salvage some of the stuff off of it. Time for a re-start.... Don't give up and keep you chin up. Good to know that no one was seriously hurt, either. Sometimes we need to start over just to make life worth living.

Re: Rip 1983-2005
Woah,
I'm sorry to hear that, and glad that no one was hurt. Fortumately you can pick up another Civic for relatively cheap and and swap all your parts over. Hows the EC1 project? |

Re: Rip 1983-2005
pictures later. i have another big pain in my sore ass. i was trying to pinpoint a problem with the brakes on the prelude yesterday. basically it feels like a warped rotor. i figured that i could just swap the rotors from my civic over so i proceeded to do that only to discover that the civic rotors are slightly thicker and will not slide into the caliper. i thought, well it was worth a try, no harm done, i'll just put the old rotor back in and deal with it later. well i got it all back together and now i have no brake pressure! i have no idea what the problem is,
last night i tried bleeding that brake only to get large amounts of air coming through and no end in sight, i figured perhaps i messed up the caliper piston in all this so i pulled it off and put the civic one on (with the thicker civic rotor) only to run into the same thing. i got pretty late so i gave up and went home. tonight i went back at it with a bunch of fresh brake fluid. since i had already swapped over the civic caliper and rotor i did the same to the other side before i did any bleeding. first i went and bled the other side (the one i hadn't touched last night) and got an expected amount of air from the caliper swap and it bled out fine, then i did the opposing rear brake and again, it bled fine. things were looking up so i went back to the original brake and got the same as yesterday! i don't know WTF to do now, a shit load of air is getting in somewhere and i cant figure where it is, fluid is cycling through the system and every possible fitting i can think of isn't leaking. i thought that all of this may have started with a small hole in the rubber line so i swapped in the civic one with no improvement. i'm up against a wall and am open to any thoughts.

Re: Rip 1983-2005
Well now that I'm not posting at 3:00am, lets see if I can be a little more helpful.
It sounds like your sucking in air as the MC piston retracts. Could be a pinole in the steel brake line, are they rusty? I doubt that it's a problem with the MC otherwise all your lines would have air in them. Don't know what else to suggest without seeing the car, but to me it sounds like a problem in the line between the MC and the problematic caliper. Maybe some cleaning of the brake lines will reveal the problem. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but you're an intelligent person so I'm sure you'll figure it out. |

Re: Rip 1983-2005
well first i traced back the hard line from the block to the caliper, cleared the line of any possible crud but that had no improvement. then i decided it's probably either the master cylinder or one of the hard lines from it so i swapped in the master cylinder and hard lines from the civic and now it's all good

master cylinders and a basterd lol they like to cause problems i have a leak in my master right now that i need to get fixing... found it out because was breaking and it felt like i needed to change my brakes i look and they have 80% of like so i chack my brake fluid it's fine. i check my master cylinder it looks fine but i notice a small puddle immerging so i say oh well and i guess i'm replacing it...

Re: Rip 1983-2005
sorry, i haven't got a tranny i'm willing to let go of. the original 5 speed i had with the 1500 went FUBAR a couple years ago. what i had in there since last november is a built accord motor and 5 speed but that tranny is now hooped and requires a rebuild. for the last couple months before it's demise i had a 4 speed from my 78 civic wagon in there. in any case most of my drivetrane parts are going to go into my 78 once i get the time to work on it again.
