My 96' Camaro is dead

Guys, I have a 96 camaro. I was riding a couple of days ago and it just died in the middle of the road and now it won't do anything. I changed the battery and I can't even get it to roll over, nothing. Anyone have any ideas about what the problem could be?

Hm.. I would suggest it needs a tune up badly, if you havent given it one in a while or since you owned it if it was bought used.

theres a big difference in saying it "wont" start and saying it dosnt try to start or it wont turn over.....maybe i just look at it different. but to me it didnt seem like he made either specific.

No other problems up to this point except that I had to change out the ignition about a year ago.

I turn the key and there is a click and it doesn't try to do anything.
So that rules out the fuel pump and a blown head gasket, because it should atleast turn over and probably would start up, although shaking and sputtering, with blown gasket? Besides, it wasn't smoking like it was on fire when it died on me in the middle of the road. With a new battery while jumping it with another vehicle, it should at least turn over. All of the fuses check out ok, and yes, i've ran out of gas in it before, but i do have some this time

I was thinking it was the ignition switch, man it is hard to get to that thing in the steering column. So that is what I'm playing with right now, but I don't know why that would have made it die in the middle of the road like it did when all of this mess started.

I don't recall if the security light is lite up, but I'll double check that when I get the ignition back in and report back.

Re: My 96' Camaro is dead

with all the information given, im gonna say its more than likely an alternator problem, the fact that it died while you were driving is why, my dad had a similar problem when he was across the state with his buddies, he was going to merge on the highway and all of a sudden his Monte just died.. luckily his buddy is a mechanic, said it was the alternator, put a new one in on the side of the road, and drove home a couple hours later..

Thanks for the suggestions so far. When I turn the key I get nothing, no clicking, no spinning, nothing. I pulled out the ignition and had it tested and it is good, the ignition is reading the key fine.

This has become, sad to say, quite interesting. Only probably because it is my brother's car, if it were mine I would probably be upset
So that is why it takes me some time to get things tested.

Is it possible to that the alternator died which killed my battery and now the security modulator is causing it to act dead. I haven't been able to check if the security light is lite up because they had the ignition pulled before I told em to check for that. So, once we get all of that back together, what do we have to do to get pass a security dashboard light should it be lite up?

Re: My 96' Camaro is dead

i think what he was referring to, is that if your security light was on, it may have locked out your ignition because of the VATS chip in your key. sometimes it doesnt quite register correctly or something, but it will lock out the ignition for 3 minutes.. i've had this happen to me many times, but that wouldnt cause your car to die while you were driving i dont think.
