blinking U/S light

I have a 2000 Rodeo. Could someone please tell me what a blinking U/S light means?

Do you mean the U/S light comes on every now and then or that it actually blinks on-off-on-off...etc constantly?

You have a 5spd manual? That's the 'upshift' light prompting you to shift to a higher gear for maximum fuel economy.

Yes it does come on at different times,and it is a 5spd. Thank you all so much, it was driving me crazy.

think of it as a shift light, tells you the "ideal" time to shift. i have a 94 with a 5 speed manual and the stupid light stays on in 5th...
