New Battery?

I was wondering if anyone had to change their factory battery for their car because of their amps pushing to much power. I put in one of those Alpine v12 amps to run my main speakers and it keeps shutting down on me. I was told by Best Buy that it was because the amp was over heating. However Alpine checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with the amp. Do you think it is because my factory battery can't handle the power?

Re: New Battery?

may possibly be the alternator, also i've heard that amps miss-matched w/ speakers are very particular and critical and mess up for no reason at all...so iono what your problem is, but yeah

Re: New Battery?

oh yeah the guy told me that my battery needs to handle 12 volts continously. Are the factory batteries in the 2003 Eclipses, do they put out at least 12 volts?

Re: New Battery?

I think I am going to go with the Optima red top. I have heard good things about these batteries. It will be enough voltage to handle all my amps output. I think it is my factory battery that is the problem.

Re: New Battery?

you need to get a higher output alternator. i can almost guarantee that its not your battery.

Re: New Battery?

Had similar things happen in my 3000gt I used to know. It wasn't the battey. Sure that red top would help, but the thing that would correct the problem would be a bigger alternator.

Re: New Battery?

You'll drain your optima battery if your alternator can't charge it up as quick as it is draining it.

OK, You should not have any problem running a bigger amp with factory speakers and head unit. There is no way that you are putting enough power through your mids to need any uprgaded power source unless you have upgraded your head unit and speakers. Even if you have the JBL factory upgrade, those speakers are will not handle the power needed to require an upgrade. IF however you are running a sub w/ your mids then yes, you will probably need/want an upgraded power source (i.e. alternator, batter isolator).

Also, amps DO overheat, and there is no way to tell after the fact that it was overheating because they shut off to prevent damage. My amps overheat all the time when im blasting for a long time. But, once they sit for a while they are good to blast some more!

The only other way i could see you needing more power running just mids/tweets is if you have upgraded them, along with a powerful head unit. I am running Kicker SS series 6.5 mids and tweets in the front, and SS series 8'' mid bass drivers in the rear. I have a 1000 watt amp powering those and even with my woofer turned way down, my lights dim, and my volts drop because those speakers can handle a SHIT load of power. If anyone wants an opinion on what mids to buy, Kicker SS series rocks my socks off!!! Also, my 12" L7 i have in a huge 3.5 cubic foot box blasts in as small a car the 3G is.

Re: New Battery?

WEll I don't have any subs really. I did upgrade my head unit and all my speakers. I have a Alpine head unit that is 50*4 watts, infinity perfect component, infinity kappa 6 by 9's. I sent the amp back and they checked it out. They said nothing is wrong with the amp. So they will probably be mailing it back to me soon. Maybe Best Buy did not do a proper install and blamed it on the amplifier. The amp shut off even when I had the radio on. I wasn't blasting the amp that much for it to shut down.

Re: New Battery?

I definitely don't think I need a new Alternator just to run this amp without shutting off. I have another amp that I am using now and I havn't had any problems. The only problem is this amp doesn't put enough power out for me.

Whats the watt/channel distribution. I hear the Kappa Perfect is a good component system, and is for sure reasonably priced (was looking at that for myself), but opted for the SS series because like everything i have it has to be the best ( i know i drive a 3G, but thats my only flaw). Sure they retail for like 1200 bucks, but I found a place online that was selling them for about 550, so I felt good about it, and for sure am glad that i got them.

Also, 6x9 speakers are not good....in fact they suck. IMO I would spend a little time and make some mid bass drivers fit your 6x9 sots in the rear. Thats what I did and it sounds great.

Re: New Battery?

I love my infinity's in my car. I have kappa's 6 by 9's in the back and they rock. Plus the sound is crystal clear unlike some other systems I have heard. I just got the Infinity perfect components in and they are just like the name says - perfect! I had Bostons in before and they sucked. For all the people that think Bostons are great - they are over rated!

Thats exactly what Infinity speakers give you.
