Question Hydrolock?

When your engine gets hydrolocked, how does the engine run? does it completly destroy it, or is there hope saving it? can you still drive on a hydrolocked engine? thanx in advance for the help

Re: Hydrolock?

if you get to it quickly you can pull the spark plugs out and get the water out before it really starts to get into everything. Get the plugs out and dry out the cylinders quickly. Then run the car.....because i've heard that the rings can literally fuse to the cylinder walls. I would recommend also to get an oil change ASAP....

Re: Hydrolock?

water is denser (or something) and doesn't compress like air. Basically you're filling up the cylinders with water (well, not filling it up completely), and when the pistons move up; it doesn't move the water out fast enough like the air would. So because of the water, there isn't enough room for the piston to come up all the way. But the piston isn't just going to stop, it's going to come up; and quickly. This can cause your connecting rods to bend; and your engine is screwed. Also if you just leave the water in there, it can cause rust and do just like Schister66 says.

Re: Hydrolock?

water does not compress like air in the cylinders for obvious reasons...................so whats the pont? you bend or break a rod or blow a hole in your block. fluids in the combustion chamber will wash out your rings..................point is...................you wont have good compression, which leads to poor engine performance, or not even starting. if you want to know if the engine is salvagable, give it a leakdown and see if the motor still cranks by hand. wouldnt hurt to rip the head off and give it a look too.

what does a bent rod look like in a hydro locked car????????/

like this.
