Syphoning Gas

Well turns out the fuel pump in my 95 grand prix se 3.1L clunked out on me. Had to pay a two truck to get it in my garage. Now the next battle is the car has almost a full tank of gas in it. I am trying to get the gas out of it but the syphoning hose seems to be getting caught up somewhere. Is there a screen or something that is blocking the syphoning hose??

Any ideas on how to get the gas out is greatly appreciated!

I've been told that GM likes to put a bend in the filler neck that won't allow a tube to get past it... Years back my brothers friend was trying to syphon gas out of my fathers van, my dad just stood there laughing at his feeble attempts...gave me a good laugh when he told me you can't syphon the gas out of it.

im assumeing theres a bend in the gas line on a 98 grand prix too then right??

On my '50 GMC truck the gas guage is broken so I drop a piece of cord, with a nut tied on the end of it, down the filler tube to measure the gas remaining.

During the gas crisis in the late 1970's most manufacturers put a bend or a filter in the filler tube to stop gas siphoning. Some put in a drain plug, some didn't. Yours didn't. You need to remove the fuel thru the filler tube.

Most cars today have "baffles". These are half moon pieces of metal welded to the filler neck...it aids the new gas pumps in shutting off when the tank is full. it also helps prevent siphoning. If the shop your car was towed to doesnt know how to overcome this, they may not be the ones you want to do your fuel pump.

Thanks Eric for the link.... yeah i figured out how to syphon my tank. Had to remove the vapor line then stuck a hose through the line and syphoned. Got about 15 gallons out of it. Gunna drop the tank tommorrow and hopefuly drop the new pump in. Thanks guys for the help!
