Sportage Trans.overdrive

Can Someone Tell Me If I Can Lower The Kick In Speed Of The Overdrive In My Kia ? At Present It Comes In At 50 Mph. I Would Like To Lower That To 45 Mph. The Local Dealer Said He Can't Help Me But It Can Be Done. Also Does Anyone Know If The Overdrive Is Actually A 5th Gear Or Is It The Torque Converter That Locks Up?

Overdrive should engage at 43 mph. It is a fourth gear, lock up of the torque converter will occur in the cruise speed range only. An important function of overdrive is that the engine coolant temperture be at least 122 degrees F.
