Mpg Vs Mph Vs Rpm, RPM's at what speed?
I have a 1998 [gen 3] with vulcan engine. I get mileage of 25-26 miled per gallon, which seems normal.
One thing that bugs me is that when I am going 60 miles per hour the tachometer says 3000 RPM. It seems mileage is OK but the revs seem too high for overdrive. Does anyone have any thoughts? |

you might not have overdrive, while driving, try switching it from od to drive, theres a clip inside the taurus trans that is known to break and the spring that engages overdrive doesnt get held tight so it wont engage

Thanks. Can this clip be replaced as part of a servicing or is it part of a complete overhaul or then again can I fix it easily myself?

I agree, you are not in overdrive. Your RPM's should be 2200-2500 at 65mph. I believe the clip is inside the transmission and it must be removed and disassembled to repair/replace it
