Loping IDle
I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Montana from a freind. It runs good, with the exception of idle. It will idle OK when cool, but once it is warm, then it starts to "lope". The RPM's go up and down about 3 times, sometimes more, and then it dies. It will start right back up. It sits at about 800 RPM, drops to about 600, then jumps to around 900, down to 500 or 600,, back up to 1000 to 1100, then down..... If it is good and warm, it will do this a few times, then die. I am thinking idle air control valve, but I hate to throw money at a problem if I do not need to. I did pull it out and clean it up with carb cleaner. It has new wires, plugs, and coils for a different problem (bad miss). That problem solved, this one showed up. It also has a new fuel filter. Any ideas?

Re: Loping IDle
I think you are right about the IAC but also check to make sure you don't have any bad vacuum lines. You also might want to change the PCV as a blocked one can cause idle issues.
If you remove the IAC for cleaning you might want to clean the throttle body too. |
