Gas tank

My gas tank cover is kind of bent out, therefore it won't close all of the way. I seen those bulletproof metal covers on the Dodge Ram 1500. Can we put those on the 2001 Grand Am?

Re: Gas tank

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit. I would take it off, wrap it in some cloth, put it in a vice, and see if you can bend it back. If you can't, just get a new replacement OEM one. There's no reason in trying to make a gas door from a different vehicle fit yours. I would just go to the dealer, find out the part number, and order it at www.gmpartsdirect.com, or somewhere else.

Re: Gas tank

The only bad thing about getting a new one is that you'll have to paint it. There's a chance a local salvage yard may have a car your color, saving you the trouble of finding paint and getting it to match. The OEM part number for the door is 22685677 and runs $52.14 retail if you decide to go that route.
