Which eclipse to buy?

Alright i have been saving money for a while and i have decided to buy and eclipse. I really like the body style of the 3g eclipses. I am eventually going to buy turbo for it, but i am wondering wich eclipse i should buy, the v4 or v6, and why?

Re: Which eclipse to buy?

4cyl. the 4cyl engine is a very good powerplant to turbo. you will not have to do any internal engine work unless you plan on running more than 15-16psi. its a very strong engine when it comes to boosting.

the v6 is an 'ok' engine. if you wanted to run more than 8-10psi, you would need to replace the pistons with forged pistons.

ok thanks, but how much do u think the turbo would add up to price wise including all the essentials needed to run it. how much for the v6 and then how much for the v4.

alot of guys can piece together kits for the 4cyl and come in under $2000 and have it running good. you can get the budget kit from tearstone ( http://tearstone.com/shop/index.php?...pshop&Itemid=2 ). if you want to go all out, you can buy the enhanced kit from tearstone.

for the v6, the option of piecing together a kit is not a very good one. in the end, you would come out cheap just buying a kit. tearstone also sells a kit for the v6.

in summary....

4cyl = $2000-$5000 depending on your needs
v6 = $5000+.

if you are talking about top speed, don't worry about that. top speed doesn't mean crap since you will hardly ever see it.

4cyl = a turbo kit running 14psi(stock engine internals) will yeild you around 300whp.

v6 = a turbo kit running 8-9psi(stock engine internals) will yeild you around 300whp.

as you can see, they are pretty you can get about the same amount of power out of both stock engines. but the 4cyl is cheaper.

clutch and gauges would be the only necessary things to do. other things like suspension, brakes, and tires are not necessary but they are good things to do.

and the 4 banger is lighter and thus faster in accel

Re: Which eclipse to buy?

Plus, I'm sure they can do a DOHC 4g63 head conversion on the 2.4L 4g64...they did it successfully on an NT 2g spyder. But like everyone already said, the i4 is a stronger block for boost.

one has dif. parts/ more parts than the other, compare the lists on the enhanced version page and read it, it says, the enhance kit has 250whp compared to the basic 210whp, dif fuel control, dif. in the turbo, bov, and stuff, so READ

yup....you can click on each of the kits and it will tell you the list of parts that come with the kit.

if you have questions that you don't think that we are answering good enough, you can always send an email to [email protected] and ask Russ(tearstone).

Re: Which eclipse to buy?

also, it's not a "V4", there haven't been any V4's since the 60s. Its an inline 4 or I4
