K&N Filter?

I just got a 2000 TNC. With the gas prices the way they are, I am looking for ways to cut back on fuel costs. Would it be worth the $36 for a K&N air filter?

The K&N will help move more air into the system and will develop some additional power. Others like the fram air hog and the new amsoil filters will do the same thing. I really don't know if you will get any better mileage but with any air filter change you may. Some other suggestions are to keep the tires aired up properly, change plugs if they are older and change the lubricants to synthetic especially the engine oil as it will reduce friction and increase mileage slightly.

Another way to improve mileage on high mileage vehicles would be to install new O2 sensors but that is an expensive and possibly unnecessary change as it will take a lot of gas to pay back the cost of the new sensors.

I have used K&N filters in my '99 Caravan and '00 Grand Caravan 3.3l. The mileage difference is about 1/2 mile to the gallon better and maybe 2 hp. You are more likely to save the money by not buying new paper disposable filters ever 12K miles. The big difference I noticed is that in humid weather there is not a power loss like there is with a paper filter. Apparently the paper absorbs some of the humidity and swells causing the pores to constrict, causing a lot more air flow resistance.
