Question 98 Trans Sport headlight switch problems!!??

Hi. I just purchased a 98 Trans Sport Extended and today noticed something I hadn't noticed before I purchased the van.

Whe I start the van all lights come on... meaning headlights, park-lights and instrument lights ? Day or night!

The switch on the dash don't seem to do anything ? Trun it off... lights stay on, trun it on... lights still stay on.

I tried everything... the parking brake on... off!! The overhead master light switch... on...off !!!.. Makes no difference.

I just wonder if this is going to be a little issue... or a BIG issue when getting it repaired.

I figured I'd try you guys first but will also be contacting GM before I go back to the place where I bought it.

Once again... I really hope this is a minor issue.

Other than that the van runs like a dream, good shape ect...

Thanks for any help folks.

Question: If you have the parking brake on BEFORE you start the van, do the headlights come ON immediately, or only after releasing the brake?

That is what happens on my van when it is dark outside (lights come on AFTER the parking brake is released).

Also - check to make sure the sensor in the top of the dash (center near windshield) does not have any dirt in it. A damp Q-Tip would probably clean it out (if needed).

Take Care,

Well I haven't had time to fool around with it until today. The sun is peeking out today too... and guess what the light's are off...yippy!

I threw a peice of paper over the sensor on the dash and the light's came on...

Darndest thing I ever saw... But hey! As long as it ain't broken all is good.

Thanks for the reply Greg. Now off to post a new subject with some new problems I have discovered.

Cheer's
