1997 Astro AWD Good ? Bad ?
Hi, new to this site, but am considering buying a 1997 astro I found in the trader here in town. My Windstar, just blew a headgasket, so I really need a van right away. This 97 Astro, has 140k on it and seems to run great. Should be just what I need. The only thing is, that it has the All Wheel Drive and my mechanic said that I might not want to mess with it, due to the high repair costs if something goes wrong with the tranny. Anyone have this model and can you tell me the ups and downs about it ? The asking price, is 1995.00 buy he says must sell and I think I can get it for 1500-1700 cash. I buy and sell antiques and really need a van. I'm not in a position to get into car payments right now. Thanx very much for any info.

Well if you are not a mechanic take it to one and have him look it over.
Anything with over 100k on it something is usually going out before 200K Any newer trans or transfer case or engine is going to cost to fix it. But what you will save on payments will usually more than cover repair cost on a major repair. Good Luck MT-2500 |

Thanx very much. I have a 91 Buick, with 200k on it and it runs like a top. I think the previous owner, had the tranny rebuilt. I will drive the Astro and if it is nice, I'll run it to my mechanic. Thanx again.
