center terminal in 2002 cavalier headlight socket melting

Does anyone know what the function of the center terminal of a 9007 headlight socket fuction is. Is it a ground or power. does anyone know what would cause that terminal to melt?
any help would greatly be appreciated

could be a loose contact or the bulb gets too hot ( not stock bulb)

anyway autozone sells the connectors change it and make sure all grounds r tight
