Re: how to remove an ignition switch

Whitenight If you still haven't changed your ignition switch, I will try to post the instructions from my '97 repair manual. I don't know if the '95 and '97 are the same though.

Re: Re: how to remove an ignition switch

Please read the following link,Multi function headlight swich:http://www.howardm.net/dred98/underhood.php

(1) Disconnect Negative battery cable.
(2) Remove the Upper and Lower cover.
(a) Disable the SIR(Supplemental Inflatable Restraint) system.
(b) Tilt column to Center position.
(c) 3 tapping screws from upper cover.
(d) Remove upper cover.
(e) Remove tilt level knob, by removing pan head screw.
(f) Remove close out knob( plastic piece that cover outside of key lock,
with writing on it, you can just pull it out)
(g) 3 tapping screws from lower cover, and remove lower cover.
(h) Remove wringing protector. You will see this plastic U-shaped piece under the top cover.
(3)Disconnect and let hang the Pivot & (pulse) switch assembly, by removing 2 tapping screws( This is the part that have the windshield switch on it)
(4) Turn lock cylinder to Run position.
(a) Push against button on the back of the lock assembly and remove the lock cylinder( this button is hard to see, It is what locks the lock cylinder in place)
(b) Remore lock pre-load spring( a small clip)
(5)Remove the the 2 pass key terminals from cavities 16 and 17 from the turn signal switch connector.
(a) There is a thin black box. under the dash above the parking brake cable. It is held by a screw. You can find it by following the wires from the steering column. There are 2 wires from the lock you need to remove. they are 16 and 17. You can find them by following the wires from the ignition switch. Mark 1of these so you will be able to install the new wires correctly.
(b) To remove the wires, a part of the black box that locks the wires down slides off.
(C) Next you need a alien wench that will fit inside the black box. I think I used a 1/8 alien wrench. From the opposite side just p;ush the 2 wires out. Before I figured out to used the alien wrench, I almost messed up the black box by using some other things that didn’t work.
