1990 4 runner shifting problems

My 1990 4runner is having issues going into 1st gear. The clutch has been replaced recently as has a pedal packet. I can shift into 1st gear fine when rolling slightly or when initially driving the vehicle. Once I come to a complete stop it becomes very difficult to shift into 1st gear. All other gears are fine and shift smoothly. I was told that it might be the free wheel that needs to be grinded down. Regardless i was informed that i would need to get the transmission out to address the problem.

Any adivice on
1.) difficulty of removing and reinstalling the tranny.
2.) installing a new clutch if that happens to be the problem
3.) Quick fixes or troublshooting that can be done before I go the tranny removal route.

Words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.. Thank you in advance.

Basically it sounds like your clutch is NOT being completely disengaged. When stopped and it's in first gear it will probably start to roll?
Have a buddy depress the clutch while you watch the travel of the clutch release fork, can it be moved further with a pry bar after the pedal stops?
Check pedal adjustment under dash for proper free play. Does the system need bleeding, does it hold the clutch release fork in the same position with the pedal depressed, does the fluid pressure "bleed off"?

Most likely is adjustment.
More serious causes:
Defective clutch disc
Defective pressure plate (clutch cover)
Incorrect clutch disc (not likely as it has been working)
Installed incorrectly (not likely as it has been working)

If there is a vibration when letting out the clutch this is caused by either face of the pressure plate or flywheel has a “taper” worn into it, worn off more in the centers, machining will fix this problem. Measure this wear with feeler gauges at the centers by using a straight edge across the surfaces.

Shift lever pilot bushing # 33548-31010 (green)=$7 CDN
Shift lever seat # 33505-35020 or 33505-35030 (white)=$16 CDN

Note: the 2 above #’s fit all trannies:G,R,W series (22R,R-E,3VZE)84-95.5,no need for entire shift lever retainer (85-95.5 pre-Tacoma)

And if the hydraulic pressure is bleeding off then what wasted time and expense of parts FOR NOTHING!!!!!
