Noisy valves??
Last night I cranked up my 2001 GTI 174hp and it reved on it's own when I gave it a little gas in nuetral. I took off and it seemed ok however I pushed in the clutch and gave it a little juice to about 3 g's and it did it again almost reving to 5 g's...so I pulled over and checked under the hood with it running and the engine sounded a bit noisy like rattling valves.? I checked my fluids and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary so I continued and everything seemed ok and didn't do anything again out of the ordinary. I dont race my car or dog it,but I'm not afraid to drive it either. It 's about to turn 75000 and about a year ago I changed over to full synthetic. Can anyone give me some insight?

Re: Noisy valves??
Bad oil pressure or wrong viscosity. Or the lifters need adjustment (sortof too early). maybe its not the valves or something like ticking exhaust leak or someother crap. How is the perfomance of the engine?

I had the same thing on my 98 jetta, took it to VW and they told me it was nothing. I asked them about the valves and the said it was normal. so 6 months later I sold it and bought a new 05 GTI 1.8t. I knew it was the lifters rattlin but it had 90000 miles on it and wanted a GTI anyway.
good luck |
