Tire Pressure
What Tire pressure do you folks use in your tires?
Reason I ask: I just had a Firestone tire rip at the seam at 75mph. The tires had 12,000 miles on them and Firestone claims they are not under warranty cause they are under-inflated. All 4 tires were at 31psi, and Firestone says they should be at 34 or 35. This caused me to go on a 3 day crusade to find the proper tire pressure for the LS. No kidding I called and talked to 14 people and have received 14 different answers. They range from 28psi to 37psi. Bridgestone-Firestone corporate offices says go with the sticker on the door (as does NHTSA, and almost every other web site). When I mentioned that the local Firestone dealer told me 34psi, Corporate backed up and said “the local dealer would know best”. Lincoln says " 30psi", Goodyear says " adjust to your comfort level, but never lower than the manufacturer recommendation" My dealer says “32psi is the right pressure” So as you can see I’m still curious, any thoughts? |

I think I put 35lbs of pressure in my 2000 LS. Another key thing is when I bought the car the tires on it where to light for the vehicle so it always looked underflated - then I bought a new set of tires and it works - runs - handles great. I took the car in for a rotation on the 17th of last month and he said I was letting my pressure get too low so he put 35lbs back in.

Re: Tire Pressure
I would agree with the "adjust to your comfort level, but never lower than the manufacturer recommendation".
I run mine at 42 cold. The Vette is set to 28 (bigger tires, lighter car). My wife's car is 36/32 (f/r). My truck is 32. ALL of them are inflated at or over the mfg. recommended pressure. It helps turn-in and mileage. Besides, I prefer a stiffer ride. Also, I spoke with a Michelin tire engineer once and he said it's better to run your tires 5 pounds over than 2 pounds under.
