electrical problem?

Hi. My caddy is parked right now. I just had the alternator replaced because the car was acting funny (dimming lights, no heat from heater, then after turned off...it wouldn't start). the mechanic said he couldn't find anything wrong...but that it sounded like the alternator was going to go out...so i had him replace that.
But, i drove it all day. The heater was on...the fan worked...but only blew cold air (the a.c. unit is unplugged and doesn't even work).....and later that night while driving the check engine came on .....the heater was on...i turned the heater off.. the light went off.. did it a few times..same result. Then the light came on when the heater was off...and the car stalled. so i coasted a parking spot. tried to restart. no luck. a few hours later it started right up. so i started driving it home. and the light came on again! so i parked it and called for a ride before it stalled on the highway in the rain. I don't know where to go from here? Back to the shop? or may be the cadillac dealer.
What does this problem sound like to you?

what year and model Cadillac is it? Have you checked the battery connections for corrosion or looseness?

What is the check engine lite code? Basics here, plus the missing info as MarkC said also.

i have got pretty much the same prob with mine but my heater workes but when u turn the head lights on it dies and it wont start back or if u let it shut off or turn it off it wont start back put a new alternator on still dont work can sum 1 help me???

A good place to start would be by getting the battery tested and the alternator output tested.
