93 jimmy transmission dragging??

i have a 1993 jimmy 4.3w vortec with the 4l60e tranny..

the problem is once in a while, well more than once in a while.. when i drive sometimes it feels like the tranny is dragging and other times it feels normal ..

now i noticed that also once in a while my cruise control doesnt work, very intermitent.. so one day i'm feeling this tranny drag while im driving and decided to put it into cruise.. the cruise did not work..

another time like later that day when the tranny feels like it is working good.. the cruise works.. this isnt just a one day coincadence ive determined that now everytime the tranny doesnt feel right the cruise wont work..

i am not trying to fix the cruise problem i am trying to determine the tranny problem, and when that is fixed im sure the cruise will be working.

i had it to gm for something and got the dude to check my codes because once in a while on the highway my check engine light comes on.. he determined (code 37 i think it was)that it was my brake switch and showed me that with a test light on one of the 2 -2pin(furthest from the brake pedal) plugs that it in fact was showing that it was on(like i was pressing the brake pedal) and when i you unplug it .. it shows the problem gone on the tester .. calling this the brake light swtich and something about the lock up converter on the other plug..

i pulled my switch today and cleaned up ther inner terminals and tested it with an ohm meter and it works exactly like a new one does..

sooooooooo.. does anyone have any other suggestions or has any one had this problem before

ANY help will be appreciated..Corey

What you're describing seems almost to be a a converter lock up problem...(I'm no transmission expert but we all see stuff from time to time). I would start focusing in on your valve body electronics. The solenoids my be going goofy. Find a reputable transmission shop in your area and have them check it out. Typically they'll give it a look for free to give you an idea of what's up. If the valvebody solenoids are messed up (fairly typical in early 4l60e's 93-97), the ecm may not be letting the cruise engage because it sees the the transmission in limp mode.

Re: 93 jimmy transmission dragging??

This does indeed sound like a problem with the brake switch. If it is sticking on, it will prevent the torque convertor from locking up, it will also prevent the cruise control from engaging. Both are tied to the brake switch. When the brake is pressed the torque convertor unlocks. Likewise with the cruise..... when the pedal is pressed, cruise control turns off.

Like blazee said....The brake switch your talking about is used by the PCM to control TCC lock-up, and is also used by the cruise control system. The system thinks you are depressing your brakes, which in normal operation disengages the cruise, and TCC lock-up. This is your problem, something in this circuit. I would replace the switch, they are hard to clean and fix for some reason, just replace it and go from there.

Alright, check to see if you have TCC lock-up. Go for a drive, get it up to about a steady 45 mph (or a little faster), with your right foot on the gas pedal lightly push the brake pedal down just a little with your left foot, you should feel a difference, and you'll see rpm's go up a little. If you feel nothing, or don't see rpm's change, you have no TCC lock-up.
