91 Eclipse 1.8 SOHC, Starting Problem

Hello everyone and thank you in advance.

Heres my problem

Bought a 91 Eclipse, base model. 1.8l SOHC for $200.00.....thought i had a deal.... Anyways.

I was told about a small leak in the valve pan gasket. .. so i figured ok ill drive it home.... while driving.. the car just shut off compleatly.. I poped the hood and oil was everywhere..... but in the engine. lmao... anyays, i get it towed to my house.. The next day i change the Valve pan gasket.. changed the oil filter added new oil ect... Battery was beat so I hooked it to my mom's Jeep and tryed to start it.. all it would do is try and start... so I checked for spark... i had spark on all 4 plugs.. soooo. i went to advance, bought 4 new plugs, all gaped at .44 and 4 new plug wires.. I replaced them I think put them in the right order... forgot to pay attention when removing them... i did 1-3-4-2 "what book said firing order was" if looking at the engine from the front of car... from left to right I guessed the order to be 4-3-2-1, now i removed the distributor cap to see where the first plug went.. there was a small "1" by one of th eplug holes. so i put the cap back on, put the first wire from the #1 cylendor looking at the engine to the #1 on the Dis, cap. Then i put the number 3 wire, counter-clockwise or "to the right of the #1 on the cap. then the 4 then the 2, still going counter-clock wise.. if this makes sense... Tried to start the car... nothing..... so i removed the wires from the cap and tried it clock wise.... still nothing "not sure if its clock wise or counter-clockwise" Now im getting spark, getting good gas flow, but the car just tries to turn over, if i push on the gas the car will turn over really fast for a few sec like its gonna start, then it just dies down again to a slow rumble.. if that makes sense.. I believe i checked all the relays and fuses.. but still cant figure out the problem.. any help would be greatly appreceated... im a n00b to eclipse's... Was always a ford probe man,,, sorta same body style..

Thank you again,
Sean

Re: 91 Eclipse 1.8 SOHC, Starting Problem

lol if you had oil everywhere but the engine, thats VERY bad. and what the hell is a valve pan gasket??lol As far as where the plug wires go, i doubt hardly anyone here could help you. Most of us have either the 420a, 4g63, 4g63t, or 4g64 engine. Not to many have the 1.8. There is a website specific to 1.8 DSMs but i can't think of it right off. If i find it ill let ya know. but y didnt you pay attention when you took them off?
