Brakes
Well, i have a 2000 GP GT and usually my brakes (i think its my brakes) squeek, its not a constant squeek, but like a squeek squeek squeek,lol. this usually havens after i accellerate fast (which i do just about every time i drive so mabye it is just after they heat up). But the problem is it only squeeks when im not applying the brakes, when i hit the brakes the squeeking goes away. So, do i just need to replace the pads, or do i need an allignment or something? Oh, and any suggestions on pads, is there really any diffrence? THANKS.

Sounds to me like the pads could be low, just pull the tire and visually check them out and see how much is left. I tend to check mine whenever I have the tires off...
When it comes to buying new pads, I was told I should try and find a performance pad. I'm looking for something that doesn't give off as much break dust, my shiney rims turn black the first time I take it out after a wash.

The squeak you hear is probably the wear sensor. That's why you hear it when the brakes are released, and don't when the brakes are applied. Try a quality set of Ceramic pads (AC-Delco Durastops or Bendix), they don't cover your wheels with black dust, and are virtually squeak free.

Like Rich said its the wear indicators...the reason it is not a constant sqeak is probobly because your rotors are slightly warped and need to be cut or replaced....For your car ceramic pads are the best--no black dust, better braking, and more miles...Alot of shops wont use ceramic pads because they cost more for the part. Also a cheaper pad will wear faster and you will be back to them sooner to get brakes done again.

Thanks. im off to autozone tomarrow to get ceramic brake pads. ill keep ya posted on the results

I would replace both the pads & rotors since the parts are cheap enough. I got a set of 4 E-bay rotors & pads shipped to my house for $150. I am quiet happy with them. If I do it again, I will pay more for the rotors with anti-rust coating...

Make sure you lubricate the slide bolts, and torque the lug nuts by hand with a torque wrench. Doing so will eliminate uneven pad wear and reduce the chance of rotor warpage/distortion due to uneven clamping forces from unevenly torqued lug nuts.
