Unhappy Major '00 LS 4WD problem

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone has some ideas as to what can be going on with my LS. As I stated in a previous post, we recently sold our 00 LS 105K miles. As the buyer was leaving he asked how to engage the 4WD, I showed him it's done by simply pushing this button....the green 4WD light came on the dash, I showed him. I then pushed the button again and that's where things got bad. The windows didn't work, the ABS light stayed on, the blinkers didn't work, blower didn't work etc... I bring it to a mechanic and they narrowed it down to it having something to do with the 4WD. He got a part from the junkyard (I think it's the 4WD sending unit??), installed it, it's still shorting out. What else can it be? Any ideas?

(if this seems alittle vague, I'm waiting for my husband to call back with the name of the part that was replaced)

My husband said it's the electric motor that engages the 4WD...that is the part that was replaced.

Yep, the shift on the fly (SOTF) actuator is electric. They will corrode up if you don't turn the 4x4 on/off every couple of weeks. If the 'new' replacement did the same thing, you need to check the wiring upstream of the SOTF. I'd start by looking at the plug-in connector at the SOTF actuator, if that looks good, check for a failed relay. Relays fail pretty often & will short everything out tied into that circuit.

G/luck
