2000 passat hood release

I have a 2000 passat glx when I pull the hood release handle nothing happens. The cable seems to be fine, is there any way I can open the hood manually?

the little handle you pull on the hood is problably broken (its plastic and cheap)

the hood dosn't even pop up, could the plastic handle prevent it from popping up?

get a second person to pull up on the hood while you pull the hood release lever in the car
