RX-7s

I was looking through fujimi's tons of RX-7 releases. Most of them are simple decal and wheel rim variations.

Are there any interesting ones that have obvious bodywork modifications?

I'm considering getting these too. Does anyone know if they're just decal variants too?

I've also heard that some Fujimi RX-7s come with the wrong chassis. Does anyone know which these are?

The two FDs I can remember from on here are both by Aoshima; Warren's Veilside in the Gallery and Jenny's Aoshima RX-7 GT Concept. Both came out really nice.

Out of the Fujimi kits you posted, I'd be most interested in the Spirit R version, myself...

The A-Spec and R-Spec are modified FD by Mazdaspeed. It's got its own front bumper, side sills and wheels. The R-spec hasn't been released yet. The Sprit R is the last limited edition of FD, and the real car was sold out this month. The real car has tons of goodies, such as drilled disks w/ red calipers, Bilstein shocks, Recaro bucket seats and BBS wheels. Mazda says that you can buy a cheap econo car with the money for those options . Fujimi kit simply includes a new decal and BBS, and chassis is still of the Skyline GT-R, but the kit is still workable.

I kindly nicely addressed the problem (complain in Japanese way) to the Fujimi rep, and suggested to update their tool to include the right FD chassis, just like they quietly did to their F355, which had 348 interior and chassis. They have so many FD kits, so they really should do that, when they release the R-Spec.

Unless it has to be Fujimi, I recommend Aoshima.

This is unusual news. I was always under the impression that fujimi products were of higher standard than Aoshima.

So which fujimi RX-7s contain the correct RX-7 chassis?

And for which other kits would you recommend the Aoshima release over Fujimi's?

For the FD before face lift, anything but Fujimi is good. Tamiya includes the left hand dash. Aoshima, and Rosso (if you can find one) are also good. The front lower A arm of the Aoshima kit might interfere with the wheel, but it's easy to fix. I can't comment on the Rosso kit, because I haven't started yet.

Both Fujimi and Aoshima have VeilSide Combat I and II, so I recommend Aoshima.

Aoshima has Mazdaspeed GT-C and C-West, and both look nice.

Only Fujimi has Mazdaspeed A-Spec and soon to be released R-Spec, so you have no choice.

Only Fujimi has later version FDs, with either Bathurst R Type R decal, or Spirit R decal w/ BBS.

For more complete info on RX-7 models, I recommend this site.
