keyless entry vs Security System????

Hey guys i am thinking of buying a ford explorer 2002 eddie bauer. I think it comes with a keyless entry (remote for unlocking the car and the back window to open). I went around town and it would cost about 400 to install a remote start. Now the ford dealer said for 1000 he would put in a like a band new security system and remote start and it was like the best or something. I have looked online and the ford explorer 2002 does not come with a security system and only keyless entry so whats the difference?

A factory keyless entry system usually incorporates a small amount of an alarm that will go off if your doors are opened. An aftermarket security system can incorporate everything from sensors to detect if the glass is broken to motion detection. There are also security systems that come with pagers that can tell you if your alarm has been triggered at up to a mile away. Do a little bit of research on the internet and I am sure you can find an alarm with 3 times the features that the dealer's would have for alot less. And unless you live in a climate that gets really cold then there is no real purpose for a remote start system. it just puts more use on your starter. This site has a viper alarm that has Gps tracking for half of what the dealer quoted you. http://www.drdetailshop.com/v200.htm
