For $9-10k, you can buy a new one. Ace, check blue-book value at nadaguide.com. And then figure if the frame or forks are damaged. And then basically assess how much it will cost you to replace the parts, OEM or aftermarket. And whether you'll be doing the work or mechanic. Then just figure out if it's worth your time/money and then make that offer accordingly. It's hard to advise you in thoroughly without looking at some pictures.

Re: 2005 R1
Better check those forks and the frame and subframe. I would be wary of a bike that needs all new fairings from going down.... I bet something else isn't kosher.

Re: 2005 R1
an R1 around here is about $15,000 brand new. i'd say t's worth $8-$9K as long as most of the damage is cosmetic.

I would personally not buy a bike that had been crashed in that manner unless it came with a certificate from Computrack, and I was sure the forks were straight. When I go bike shopping I look for deals on bikes that have been lowsided, or some other low impact crash.
