I have a '91 olds cutlass calais that has the 2.5L in it, it has front disc brakes. Here is the problem. Driving down the road today, was braking to a stop, and heard what I guess I would describe as a clunking sound, it is quite loud.....it can only be felt/heard when braking. Also, noticed that there is a shimmy??(steering wheel goe back and forth left to right) while driving, you can see it do this. I am wondering if the problem is the lower ball joint or tie rod? Any suggestions? Thanks!

A shimmy when stepping on the brakes usually means the rotors need to be cut or replaced depending on how thick they are. Clunking sounds are usually the axles. |

found out what the noise was, apparently a bolt on the brake caliper was loose somehow, but fixed it. Still not sure what could make the steering wheel shimmy left to right(back and forth), could alignment be causing it or would it be something with the power steering ?
