Delay shifting into drive

I recently purchased a 2002 Xterra. It is a 2WD automatic. The only problem I have is a delay shifting into drive from park or reverse? The delay is approx. 2 seconds. I had the transmission serviced (local mechanic) but the result was the same? Can this delay be adjusted in the computer? I have a tentative appointment at a Nissan dealer but was curious as to whether I might be wasting my time?

I would appreciate any input? THX
