Manual Choke?

well, more problems with my car!

every morning(now that its like 40º-50º) my car struggles to stay alive! i have to practically floor it to keep the car going and it blows out a lot of gray smoke. . . . it takes like 5 minutes to warm up and run decently.
well since i gotta floor it everymorning, its wasting a lot of gas, and i doubt its very good to floor it when u first start it up in the morning.

aaannnyways, my question is: Will a manual choke solve this problem? How much? Is it easy to install? Or is there another solution for my dilema?

if not. . . i might sell it and buy the mk3 supra up the road

Welcome ot the world of the carb. A choke will help if that is indeed the problem. Also sounds like you need some more pratice starting/driving a cold vehicle with a carb too. Chokes are VERY easy to install. You buy one, run the cable from the carb back to the dash/wherever you want it to be. Hook it up and away you go. Make SURE there are NO tight turns in it, if there is you will curse yourself later on.

hmm, by tight turns, u mean no kinks in the cable or no tight turns when im driving it? and are they pretty cheap?(<$50?)

Actually there are some zero kink cables out there now and thery are pretty cool. My wife's little brother uses them for brake cables on his bmx bikes.

Anyways, this is going around the problem, you have an out of adjustment or non functioning choke pull off valve. We went over this when the car was having poblems before.

Make sure the choke plate is closed on cold start then slowly opening to eventually straight up.

Ok, On my car you have to push the pedal all the all down and hold it for like 2 seconds to engage the choke. I dunno if this helps because i have a 307 and it might be differnt from his (305?). After that it starts up and runs fine. I would check to see if the one on your carb if working or if there is one.

nah, i dont got a 305, i got a 173(2.8l V6)

when i look at the choke plate before i start it up, it looks as closed as it can be.

anyway, after the car warms up, it runs perfect. . . so im guessing the choke works, but has something wrong with it!

about that choke pull off valve. . . how do i adjust it or make sure its working properly

pull offs are vacuum operated so if the hose is cracked or rotted it won't work right.

there should be an adjustment screw on it as well to set diaphragm pressure, to do it abolutely correct there is a protracter guage to moniter the precise operating angles. The hard part, every time you go to set it the engine must be stone cold, overnight set other wise you'll be chasing it for days.

ok, ill try that. . . i told my dad that might have something to do with it and he was sooo sure you didnt have to adjust anything.

all the settings should be in a haynes manual right?
