Hey im new to the forum I think this is an awesome place and helps people save thousands of dollars.
Recently I just sold my 92 camaro RS to a friend and he drove it fine for a couple of days and all of the power just completely went. I drove the car fine for about a year and it sat for the past month, but all of the power is gone, there isnt any lights whatsoever, or any dash lights but I tested the batter and it is fully charged, I tried reconnecting the possitive side of the terminal with no luck. If anybody has a wiring diagram it would be helpful. I read a lot about VATS but I dont think this would shut off the power to the whole car and from what I can see the fuzes are all intact. Im gettin desperate |

Re: 92 Camaro RS NO POWER WHATSOEVER
VATS cuts power to the starter and injectors. If the whole car dead you have other fish to fry(no pun intneded). There's gotta be a open in the entire power supply system, like a broken battery or ground cable.

Re: 92 Camaro RS NO POWER WHATSOEVER
thanks for clearing up the possibility of VATS
So, I went over today and he said earlier this morning the dome lights had come on and everything was fine, and I went there and as soon as I sat in the car they went off, it has to be a loose wire somewhere, im going to search the internet for schematics and such, what would cause a WHOLE electrical system to randomly go off, is the battery negative the only possibility?? I know you can ground stuff to the frame of the car since it is a negative ground, so wouldnt some stuff still work. or is the whole entire car just connected to the negative terminal in the battery? I do appreciate the help thanks. |

Re: 92 Camaro RS NO POWER WHATSOEVER
Sounds like a dirty connection somewhere on the battery and/or cables. Remove the cables, inspect and clean them.

on a 92, the battery cable goes down to the starter. It then feeds power through fusable links to the rest of the car. There are 4 of these. I suspect that the big nut on the starter solenoid is loose or corroded. Disconnect the negative cable, then crawl under the car and check it out. Whether or not it is loose, take all the wires off and clean them off completely, then apply some grease or petroleum jelly, then reconnect. While the fusable links are off, gently pull on then to see if there is a separation inside the insulation. A lot of times they blow partway giving aggrevation. Do this then repost.

I have been on vacation for several days so it's a late repost, but before I left I pretty much figured out the problem. I followed the possitive terminal fat cable all the way around my engine and tugged on it and as I was tugged on it deep down somewheres and noticed that the lights were flickering on and off and wallaa. So now I just have to crawl into or under my car and secure the connection to wherever it may go, at least now I can power the car etc. etc. Why would this wire randomly decide to disconnect 3 days after I sell my car??? We may never know. I just dont want it turning loose when somebody is driving and loose power steering and brakes
but thank you guys for the help, I found some wiring diagrams too that suggested the fuzeable link, but Im guessing that wasnt the problem.
