clutch replacement

for anyone out there this is the first time i have ever been on a chat i am the mother of a 21 yr old who owns a mazda mx6 1994 who blew the clutch and has been trying for a week to get the trans out to replace the clutch. he as taken everthing he can off underneith but the trans will not drop it is front wheel drive if anyone has any experience i would appreciate the help even if it is just a list of things to remove to get to the trans maybe he has missed something this is his first time doing this and i feel bad for him he is very frustrated

mom, did you buy a repair manual for him? If not it may will probably pay for itself off this job alone. Plus, he seems motivated enough to continue doing his own repairs. I'm sure it would make a good gift for him. I'm sorry I can not give you more advice, there is a lot involved with the clutch (example: what engine is it?) and it would be nearly impossible to walk him through the job online. Good luck.

In all honesty, I think it is easier to pull out the whole motor and then work on it while it is out.

Especially with the 2nd generation MX-6's... the motor swaps are easy stuff. Motor could be out in a few hours. Is this a V6 or a 4 banger? and what area are you from?

He has to drop everything from the entire driver side of the car from top and bottom, disconnect the motor mounts and tilt the engine ( transmission end ) down torwards the ground but make sure not to crush anything while the intake manifold and all that is pressed up against the firewall.
