E-Brake problems

I've been losing grip on my e-brake for about a year now. I read on a forum about an adjustable nut under the center armrest that you can adjust to fix this problem. If this is true, how do you get the center armrest off to get to the nut????? Please help, this is driving me nuts.

For Jetta MKIII...from the back seat area, locate two removable plugs (one each side) lower back part of the console. This will give you access to the screws that hold the console in place. Remove the two screws (phillips head). Now you will be able the lift-up the console from the back. You will have to remove a metal bracket...two nuts 10mm.
You will see the two e-brake cables fastened to the equalization bar. Now you can adjust the tension of the e-brake. If rear brake wear is even, you adjust the cables equally....good luck...very easy

Hey buddy....Thanks a bunch, but I forgot to say that it was a 2000 Jetta (MK4). I don't know if they have a similar setup?????? If ya know about the mk4 armrest.....spill it. I'd appreciate it!!!!!!

there are 2 10mm nuts that you adjust... but if its loosing its feel than check the brake pad level... also if the pads are ok than replace the cables... they fail alot
