2 sp powerglide damage
When taking a powerglide off a 307 and reinstalling on my friends 327 we somehow didn't get the converter far enough into the pump, It's an embarrassing oversight. It all fit up ok and didn't need to be pulled in by the bellhousing bolts or anything like that but after the engine ran a minute or two I went to see if the tranny was pumping. After it was in neutral for about 30 seconds we had some noises and clanking from the converter. On disassembly there was no trans fluid in the cooler and only what we had put in the converter earlier. There are no marks or burrs on the slots of the conv. My friend pulled on the center shaft and I was shocked to see him pull it right out of the tranny? Is that possible. It goes right back into place with a little wiggling. We now have all the installation data and have tried reinstalling on the engine on the shop floor but this is a difficult engine mounting so we don't want to reinstall without knowing if we damaged the pump or convertor? Is there any way to tell? To be on the safe side I think I should advise him to shop for another serviceable powerglide.
