Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

Police searching for car involved in deadly street race

11:31 AM MST on Wednesday, October 26, 2005

3TV and azfamily.com Staff

Police are searching for a car that was involved in a street-racing accident that killed a 20-year-old.

3TV
The driver of this car lost control, served into the median and hit a pole, police said.
It happened last night neat Gilbert Road and Civic Center Drive.

According to investigators, a blue Acura and another car were racing when the driver of the Acura apparently lost control, swerved into the median and slammed into a light pole.

The driver of the Acura, Chad Bivens, was airlifted to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the second car took off.

This morning, police are asking for the public's help to find that car.

"We're looking for witness information [from anyone] that was in the area at the time the vehicles were racing," Sgt. Scott Girardin of the Gilbert Police Department.

Police said they don't have much in the way of a vehicle description and would like to hear from anybody who might have seen the race of the subsequent wreck.

Investigators believe the cars were racing on Gilbert Road between Ray and Warner roads.

R.I.P. Chad Bivens

For those who have seen problemhatch post, this was his wifes old car. This was also the car the civracer was looking to purchase.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

What was it doing in Arizona?

I'm assuming somebody bought it from them in Utah and it ended up in AZ?

I'm confused...

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

That sucks. Seeing a car that you've put a lot of money, sweat and blood into end up in a wreck like that must break your heart. My guess is that they're never going to find the other driver.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

I saw that in the news, and let me say this:

NEVER, EVER, TAKE YOUR CAR, OR YOURSELF, BEYOND EITHER'S LIMITS - ESPECIALLY ON A PUBLIC ROAD.

Now, we'll have more lawmakers saying: "See? We need more laws..." etc etc...

...even though this type of news surfaces about once/twice every year in AZ, while we have accidents invoving a death, with no hint of racing involved (sadly) almost every other day.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

wow kinda scary, one of our members drove that car at one point in time, could have been driving it right now.

stupid kid, there is no way he had a good feel of that car to be street racing, it had to have been sold to him like less than a month ago.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

So if they do find the other driver would he be charged with something other than street racing. I'm sure there is probably a law that says something to the effect of "accidental, non-impact, induced vehicular homicide"... It's a shame the kid died. He obviously didn't know what he was doing. There may have actually been foul play. Who knows? The media doesn't have all the facts and the public will never know all the facts... I watch too much CSI...

Yeah, I'm with Kris. Once sold, you sign and send in the release of liability form. Once that's done, you're free and clear.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

Damn. That's not good at all. I hadn't even heard about this one untill this post was made and this happened just a few miles from where I live.

One thing I don't get is, unless the other dude hit the Acura and caused it to crash, how the hell does one lose control of a fwd vehicle in a strait line? Damn, these kids need to chill out and learn to drive before doing this stuff.

There is more to the story, than what is being reported in the news.

I know for one, he upset a few people with how fast his car was. I dont think this was a classic drag race.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

Think there was some foul play involved?

This seems to happen once a year, somebody has a fast car. The 'locals' get upset and some poor guy gets ran off the road in some racing road rage.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

Even with all the paper work transfered, he can still be sued. We had a friend of our family sell their house, and they had a diving board. The people who bought the house had a real party happy daughter. She threw a party, and some drunk ass jumped off the diving board, knocked his head of the concrette, and cracked his skull. The friends that sold the house ended up getting sued. They won, but it lasted almost a year and a half for the suit, and cost a shit ton of money. I'd do it just to be safe, because in our sue happy society, you cant be to safe.

Re: Street Racing Death *ARIZONA*

I have been in close touch w/ chads mother. Damn guys this sucks really bad. I can't go into detail, but there was foul play and a history of involvement w/ the other vehicle. I sold it to him September 28th 2005. What sucks more is we kept in touch and became pretty good friends and i had plans to see him when i go race Nopi in Pheonix next March.

RIP Chad Bivens 10-25-2005
