Re: 160+ in 3rd gear?

160km/h is about 100mph, My car will do around 90 in 3rd, so it might be possible to hit 100mph in 3rd.

It's worth mentioning that the faster the car is traveling, the more inaccurate the spedo will read.

If you get the measurements on the tire plug them in here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html.

Yeah, if I remember right. I dont have a tach, so I cant tell where redline is, but I dont want to find out the hard way. I have to go to work in a few minutes, I will take a good hard pull ( yeah right) in 3rd and see what happens.

Ok, I did a good pull in 3rd and it seemed to not want to go much over ~68 in 3rd, but there were so many damn cars out. I was coming up the hill in a good pull and all of a sudden there was a car behind me and it was catching on me fast. As soon as I was over the hill and couldnt see his lights, I turned off and went home.

Re: 160+ in 3rd gear?

Stock 1G tire size is 205/55/R16 with the exception of the 1.8L model. And yes, 100mph+ is very possible in 3rd gear in a 1G, I've done 170km/h(~106mph) with my original tranny in 3rd. My current tranny has shorter gears and it will only do about ~130km/h(~81mph) in 3rd, but the shorter gears get it up to speed much faster.
