CV Boot Replace
Have a 2001 Cavalier, inner CV Boot is split. Whats the correct way to replace the boot?

The only good way to replace it is to take the halfshaft out of the car and disassemble the CV joint and replace the boot with a new one-piece boot. Then repack the CV joint and put the whole thing back together.
Depending upon how many miles you have on it, it's always cheaper and faster to just replace the entire halfshaft with a rebuilt, and be done with it. The halfshaft will have both joints rebuilt, and both boots will be brand new. You can get one for about 60 bucks. Maybe some folks here have good luck with those split boots, but I've never seen them last very long. |
