93 blazer vortec Hot start issues, rough idle, stalling

Hi, I have been having problems with my 93 s-10 blazer. I figured out what was wrong and I thought I would share it here for people having this problem. My truck would start fine when it was cold. After a few seconds it would start to have a rough idle going up and down in RPM's. After it was warm, it would want to die when I stopped and I had to keep on the gas to keep it running. If it stalled, it would not start for like and hour. I took it to a mechanic after I gave up on fixing it myself and it ended up being a temperature sensor. It was telling my computer that it was 140 degrees below zero and dumping way to much gas in. Just a little tidbit of info for everyone out there.

Thanks for the post!! I have a 93 doing the same thing. Have tried everything I could think of, get advice for, or guess at. So far everything has turned up as not being the problem. Will look into this. Did he use a scan tool on this? How much was the sensor?

I believe he used a scan tool to find this. The sensor was $20. I had to get another part that was $20 also. I think it was something that sent the temp to my gauge.

Yes, on 93/94 models, the gauge temp unit is in the right head and the ECM temp unit is in fron of the intake manifold.

I had to replace my sending unit in the head to get my gauge to read again. I think I'm just going to go ahead and replace the other unit as well, they look nearly identical (different connectors), I figure if one went bad, the other is probably not far behind.

Mine actually starts right back up again, so not as bad as this one was. It seems to be heat related though, as it seems to have a weak idle after it warms up. Will check them out to see if I find any trouble there.

The last part of my tuneup cured my bobble at a warm idle, I finally got around to changing the plug wires. Just mentioning it.

Advance Auto only shows one temp sensor. Is the one for the ECM called something else or a dealer only item???

My part shop down here call it a Temp Sensor for the ECM and a Temp Sender for the gauge.

I believe it is Temp sensor for the gauge, and coolant sensor for the ECM.

the other one might have been called the temperature sending unit.
