Question Oil Pressure??

hey, whats goin on, got a question, on my 99' 4.8 L my oil pressure runs on average between 35-45psi idling, and as high as 60psi at wide open throttle. Does this seem low to any one else?? or is this normal?? My friends got a 01' with a 4.8 L but his runs signifigantly higher, at wide open throttle he's running at almost 80psi? what is the normal range??

could be oil pump is clogged or going bad. or the gauge could be off a little. you could get a manual gauge and install it from summit or jegs. have you changed the oil lately?

Re: Oil Pressure??

Actually I think that is well within norm. I have 42K on my 5.3 and Oil pressure is between 40-65 (cold, idle, hwy) if it gets close to the bottom of the gauge I would begin to worry. If it was considred low, GM would have put a red line at 35psi. But there is no red line except at 0

As the mileage/age of the truck increases the oil press decreases. How many miles are on the truck, it being a 99 I would think the oil press you listed is very good. When comparing to another truck be sure to consider the mileage.

My 99 has the same readings are yours, I had a 95 that had the same too. We also have a 00 Tahoe thats not quite as good as my 99 truck.. They are all different considering history of the vehicles.
